I am hoping to develop ways in b4m 2.0 to give users the ability to see and communicate with only those individuals they want. How I am going to do this I am honestly not sure.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I may rip off myspace’s friend system to give you more of a community of friends then they entire site. Not sure though.
The only way to enforce something like that is to accpet credit cards. And even that does not work all the time because kiddes can get their dad's card.
The new version is way beyond this current one so I should be able to implement something. Probably a friends system or something like it.
lol Natanis! so over hordes of students infiltrating the place! bleh. i have a cold and am woozy tired so i don't have a lot of suggestions, but ripping off myspace does sound like an excellent plan. go with that!
Here's my two cents. Which obviously, depending on how the site is built, may or may not be feasible.
Ultimately (but maybe not) the site would revolve around user IDs or a more complicated permissions system. Who's my friend, who's not? What can I see, what can't I see? Is everyone my friend? Is no one my friend? Can I see everything? Can I see nothing?
One way to implement some kind of friend-based permission system would be to place an communication intermediary between the user and whatever is in charge of coughing up information. If things are objectified well, this might not even be a huge change to the site overall. I mean, it will be a decent sized change, but you know what I mean.
Back to the point.
This intermediary would perform a series of operations to make decisions as to what content can be passed on to the screen. But, decisions have to be made in advance such as: will there be "levels of privacy"? For example, if someone isn't your friend, can they see nothing? Can they see some things? Can they see most things, but not all things?
I envision that the User can ask whatever he/she wants, but might not always receive or, "get what they asked for". The intermediary might take a User's query and manipulate it given some permission policy.
This way, you might even be able to completely lose, bring back, ditch, add or recall rules.
