At my office I am basically the office manager. Both of my bosses are full time pilots for NWA so I pretty much run the show around here. We are a small office of about 7 people.
About 8 months ago we hired someone I knew from a bar I hang out at and her job is to answer the phone and do the administrative stuff that I don't have time to do nor want to do.
She takes a lot of time off, her boyfriend recently had a kidney removed (he's 61 she's 27) so she took off all last week to be with him, understandably. She arrives to work 15 minutes late and leaves 10 minutes early. I spoke to her two weeks ago and told her that if she is going to leave 10 minutes early than she needs to be here 10 minutes early, she said ok and started to do so.
Monday she tells me that she has to go with said boyfriend to have the staples removed from his surgery. I ask "will you be in after, to which she replies yes, I will be in by noon." So Tuesday rolls around and no coworker. I have asked previously if she is not going to show up she needs to call Which is something she never does. Jesus, she didn't even show up on the FIRST day or call. My boss decided to keep her, because we needed the help. I would have peaced her out at that moment.
Fast forward to today, I come in she is in the office directly in front of me. She is watching the news on the internet, and telling me how cold it is going to be tonight. I said did you get the information together for the email blurb, and she said no. I asked her to please get it together because we are sending it out in the morning. "Sigh, okay!!". I am getting sick of the attitude. The phone rings and she says it's someone on the phone asking for a refund, I said tell them to send in a refund request by fax or email just like everyone else has to do. A little snippy. I admit. She hangs up and I said for future reference the only way we issue a refund is if it is by a written request she says "Well someone has to tell me if I am the one dealing with the customer", and then tells me she is going home. All huffy.
I said fine, come back tomorrow without the attitude. She leaves.
Now my question is, what the hell to do about her? She has no respect for my authority, does she get canned, reprimanded, I just don't know what the hell to do and both of my bosses are out of town.
She should be canned. 86'd. Fired. Disengaged. Don't-let-the-door-smack-you-on-your-sorry-ass-buhbye. She does not respect your authoritah! Or keep to her word or attempt to be any kind of reliable. It's not hard to call when you're gonna be late. This is not too much to ask. Plus it doesn't sound like she's even doing her job when she's there. Screw that shit.
I say regulate. I know you Natanis. You let her stay and you'll end up in jail for assault. Save yourself the probation, fire her. You'll be doing her a favor, how will she succeed in life if people let her skate by being a lame ass good for nothing? She won't. Tell her she sucks ass, explain why she is sucking ass and wish her good luck in not sucking ass anymore.
