Noah's Ark Replica

I just got the weekly headlines from my hometown newpaper.  Apparently they are building a replica af Noah's Ark at the Boothbay Harbor Shipyard.  Here is the link if you are interested:

That was a pretty cool article!  That ship would be frickin' huge!  It sounds to me like it will be too big though.  I'm no scientist, but I can't help but wonder how much water a ship that size would displace and if it would be enough to keep it afloat.  It would need at least a 20 foot draft, right? (Since it is 30 feet tall I just figured it would probably want to keep about 10 feet of it above the water line). Then when its full of every animal ever, its gonna weigh in at a lot more.

If anybody is fascinated with the seaworthiness of such a vessel, this website will force you to lose that fascination really really quickly...

Interesting site Ryan, and yes the draft would have to be atleast 10ft.

interesting how someone from the stinking desert in the middle east in primitive times couldve come up with such calculations to the point where modern day scientists would be forced to tip their hat and have to attempt a build at a replica of the thing rather having had the technology to build something far and beyond by now in the first place.

and if we stick with the biblical account, homedude noah lived in the desert and was building an ark, something which the desert people around him had never ever seen before or even could possibly imagine....

math to myth to math again.

Yeah, exactly.  That's a hell of a lot of wood for a guy who was 600 years old to be carting around too (600 years, 2 months and 17 days old).  Maybe he was using the force...

Where do you get wood in the desert? Home Depot? 84 Lumber? Nay. That fucker was a floating adobe for sure.
